One-run games abound in Iron Range softball

NEGAUNEE — The Iron Range Women’s Softball League featured a pair of one-run decisions on Wednesday, one in each of its divisions.

In the “B” Division, Hailey Hytinen hit a pair of three-run home runs, both of the rare over-the-fence variety, to lead Paradise Bar to a 16-15 win over Pineshears.

The winners’ Kristi DeCaire went 5 for 5 while teammate Mel Barlow was 4 for 4, and for Pineshears, Heidi Verville and Kathy Johnson were cited for playing good defense.

Then in “A,” Brittany Singer and Ciara Kangas each went 3 for 4 to pace Jasper Ridge Brewery to an identical 16-15 triumph over Pasquali’s.

Singer included a triple among her hits, while Kangas doubled and teammate Erika Bjorne homered. For Pasquali’s, Bethany Suomi hit a pair of triples and accumulated two RBIs, while Carlie Root had a triple and double.

In other “A” games, Sam Makela went 4 for 4 that included what was termed a power bunt triple and Taylor Paquet was 5 for 5 as River Rock scored a 15-8 win over the Eagles, whose Laycee Mattson had two triples.

Ashley Maki went 4 for 4 to lead Congress Pizzas to a very similar sounding 15-8 decision over Dave’s Collision-Jack’s Teepee.

Congress’ Shana Caliguri was also 3 for 4 and Cassy Sandberg 2 for 4, while Dave’s Jordann Lori and Faith Toutant each were 2 for 3 as Heather Moore tripled.

And Nicole Christensen homered, doubled and was 3 for 3 to lead Barrel + Beam to a 15-0 shutout of LaCosse & Associates.

The winners’ Amanda Harlock was also 3 for 3, each of her hits a double, while Jackie Skradski went 3 for 4 with a pair of triples. LaCosse’s Morgan Kowalski, who was cited for great defense, and Jordan Kowalski both went 2 for 2.

In the B Division, Kassy Antilla hit a pair of triples and was one of a quartet with four hits as Tino’s sped past Palomaki Family Chiropractic 24-10.

Antilla was joined by teammates Aspen Tackman, Amber Forchini and Chelsea Belanger in going 4 for 4, while teammate Sam Dymond hit a triple. Palomaki’s Krystal Bergman went 3 for 3.

Krystal Heikkinen hit a triple while she and teammates Cherie Johnson and Chastity Hudson each hit a double as Willey’s Tire Shop doubled up the Elks Lodge 16-8.

Erin Terzaghi and Savannah Toth both tripled as Signs Unlimited scored a 16-7 win over Quality Car Care, whose Katelyn Lammi went 3 for 4 and Dana Rivord doubled.
