MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University leading scorer Josie Lakosky was recently chosen for the Midwest Region Second Team by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.
The sophomore attacker was the only non-Grand Valley State player to achieve this honor from the two schools’ league, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Lakosky was also one of just eight freshmen and sophomores named among the 32 to the Midwest Region’s First and Second teams.
All together, 128 student-athletes across NCAA Division II were placed on all-region teams.
Lakosky was by far Northern’s leading scorer with 91 points — 49 more than any other Wildcat — as the GLIAC Attacker of the Year also led the team with 69 goals and 22 assists.
This was the first all-region selection for Lakosky, who was also named First Team all-conference and set career highs in just about every statistic.
She was at or near the top of just about every GLIAC scoring statistic, too, also ranking highly in those stats regionally.
Lakosky led the Midwest with 6.89 shots on goal and 9.00 total shots per game, the former number fifth in NCAA Division II and the latter ranking her seventh nationally.
She was also third in the region and 14th in the country with her 69 goals, while her 1.05 free position goals per game was fourth in the region, 91 points was fifth in the region, 3.63 goals per game also fifth in the region, and 4.79 points per game eighth in the region.
Lakosky ran NMU’s streak to three straight years that a Wildcat has been named a Midwest Region honoree by the IWLCA. In 2024, Minnie Bittell was named to the First Team, also the team that Lauryn Rygiel was named in 2023.
For NMU, Lakosky was also second in ground balls with 35 and second in caused turnovers with 16.
