Stuga North, North Woods, Jon’s Auto post Negaunee LL wins
NEGAUNEE — Stuga North, North Woods Carpentry and Jon’s Auto all posted victories over Steph Robar State Farm in Negaunee Little League softball action over the past two weeks at LaCombe Field in Negaunee.
On May 13, Stuga North won 17-7 using a six-run first inning and seven-run fourth.
State Farm’s Sydney Skewis went 2 for 2, while teammate Sophia Dubord, Cailey Sandstrom and Adalyn Lehtinen each had a hit with Dubord collecting two RBIs. And State Farm’s Malaya Belen reached base twice on walks.
Aili Johnson took the pitching loss despite striking out seven as she walked two.
North Woods Carpentry posted a narrow 20-18 win over State Farm on May 15, even after the insurers built a seven-run lead.
State Farm posted 15 hits, led by Addison Vance going 3 for 4 with one RBI and Skewis 2 for 3 with five RBIs. Teammates Johnson and Hadley King also had two hits, while Belen and Capri Kangas added one hit apiece.
Johnson again pitched for State Farm, scattering four hits and walking three while fanning two.
On Tuesday, Jon’s Auto posted an 18-8 victory over State Farm, using six-run innings in the second and fourth.
On defense for State Farm, Skewis turned a double play, while Johnson, playing center field, threw out a runner at third base. In all, State Farm committed just three errors.
Dubord led State Farm’s nine-hit attack, going 3 for 3 with a triple, while Sandstrom was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Vance, Lehtinen and King each had a single.
After Johnson started on the pitching rubber and struck out two and walked one, Kangas came on and struck out one while taking the loss.
