NMU women’s track cleans up at St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. — As the NFL Draft was wrapping up at nearby Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Saturday, the Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team picked up 14 top-three podium finishes at its final meet of the regular season, the St. Norbert Invitational.

The Wildcats are already off to the GLIAC Outdoor Championships, which began Wednesday and run through today at Grand Valley State’s track in Allendale, then hope to get some athletes qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships set for Pueblo, Colorado, starting May 22.

In De Pere, just about five miles away from Lambeau, NMU picked up seven event victories, four runners-up and three third places. In addition, 10 personal records were set by Northern athletes.

Among the wins were two posted by Ahna Larson in pair of the dashes as she took the 100-meter dash in 12.76 seconds and the 200 in 25.90.

Ellyse Wolfrath won the 100 hurdles in 14.05 seconds, Ella DeBruyn the 1,500 in 4:48.61, Escanaba High School graduate Ciara Ostrenga the 400 in 57.80, Wilme Els the javelin in 39.41 meters (129 feet, 3 5/8 inches) and Emily Czeiszperger the pole vault as she cleared 3.46 meters (11-4 1/4).

Runner-up finishes were notched by Wolfrath in the 200 in 25.96 seconds, Crystal Walker in the 100 hurdles in 14.13, Rebecca Lane in the pole vault after clearing 3.46 meters (11-4 1/4) and Alayna Vandegriff in the triple jump with a leap of 11.84 meters (38-10 1/8).

Thirds were posted by Walker in the long jump with a leap of 5.52 meters (18-1 3/8), Teiolla Harvey in the shot put with a heave of 11.96 meters (39-2 7/8) and the Wildcats’ 4-by-100 relay team of Sofi Diop, Kanya Campbell, Amaya Teague and Maddy Rasmussen in 50.91 seconds.
