ISHPEMING — With both teams winning 14 of the 17 events, the Negaunee boys and girls each were dominant in capturing titles at the annual WIN high school track and field meet held Tuesday at the Ishpeming High School track.
The Miners girls totaled 129 points while Westwood was a distant runner-up with 22 as Ishpeming had 20.
In the boys meet, Negaunee piled up 120 points as Westwood had 46 and Ishpeming 14.
The “WIN” title comes from the first letter of each school in western Marquette County — Westwood, Ishpeming and Negaunee — in competitions held in a wide variety of sports during the school year.
On Friday afternoon, Westwood is scheduled to be one of the invited teams at the Negaunee Lions Meet. Ishpeming was scheduled for the Lions Under the Lights Invitational that same evening in Munising.

All three of the west end teams will also be at the Marquette County Meet being hosted by Ishpeming at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Here are rundowns on each WIN meet:
Girls set records
The Miners’ Sadie Rogers had a hand in four victories, including three in individual events, and had a hand in two of the Negaunee girls’ three record-setting performances at the meet.
“I believe that this is the first time in my 30-year coaching career that I have had three school records fall on the same day,” Miners veteran head coach Vickie Paupore said in an email detailing the results.

“The kids have been waiting for some nice weather this spring, and when we finally had a beautiful day, they took advantage of it. This was great weather for sprinting and our girls really capitalized on it.”
Rogers won the 100-meter hurdles in a school-record 15.75 seconds, adding victories in the 300 hurdles in 48.19, 200 dash in 27.15 and running a leg on the victorious — and record-setting — 400 relay.
The quartet that also included Macyn DellAngelo, Izzy Francisco and Keira Waterman established their new record in 51.50 seconds.
“Sadie is so fast, and combined with her beautiful hurdle form, I knew the 100 hurdle record was bound to fall,” Paupore said. “I have been talking to our 400 relay team since the beginning of the season about making it a goal to break that record, and they have been waiting for a nice day to do just that.”
Negaunee’s other record that was broken was in the 100 dash by DellAngelo in 12.62 seconds.
“Macyn has made some incredible progress this year and I am so happy for the growth she has had,” Paupore said.
DellAngelo was one of a pair of three-time winners for the Miners, the other being Riley Conklin.
DellAngelo also ran a leg in the winning 800 relay that clocked 1:56.47 with Francisco, Madison Gaston and Elvera Coyne, while Conklin added victories in the 400 in 1:07.97, the 3,200 in 15:22 and a leg of Negaunee’s triumphant 3,200 relay in 12:31 that included Eliza Sicotte, Liv Johnson and Addie Chapman.
Waterman also won the 800 in 2:30.20, while Chapman added a victory in the 1,600 in 6:31.
Gaston added a second relay victory in the 1,600 relay in 4:35 that included Madison Pekrul, Clare O’Donnell and Nori Korsman.
Negaunee also got wins from Korsman in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 5 inches, and from Baylie Bourdeau in the discus with a throw of 96-10.
Of the three events not won by the Miners, two were claimed by Westwood’s Lexi Olson as she took the high jump by clearing 5-2 and the pole vault by making it over at 9-0.
And Ishpeming’s Jaydn Negilski triumphed in the shot put with a heave of 36-5.
Miners boys dominant
Brady Mager led the Negaunee boys with wins in four individual events, taking the 200 in 22.90 seconds, 110 hurdles in 15.59, 300 hurdles in 40.97 and high jump with 5-8.
His hurdles victories were particularly dominant as he won the 110 by more than a second and a half and the 300 by close to 3 1/2 seconds.
Teammate Simon Jaklin was a triple winner, taking the 1,600, though no time was available, the 3,200 in 11:35 and running a leg of the Miners’ victorious 3,200 relay in 9:47 along with Quin Karlstrom, Drew Juchemich and Michael Slawinski.
Jaklin’s 3,200 victory was by 56 seconds.
Evan Asikainen, Derek McEachern and Kyle Waterman were double winners, each winning an individual event and running a winning relay leg.
Asikainen took the pole vault on a tiebreaker over Westwood’s Louis Salmi after each cleared 9-0, while the Negaunee athlete also ran a leg on his team’s winning 400 relay in 47.93 seconds with Broc Bonovetz, Aries Korsman and Marshall Peters. That relay won by more than 2 1/2 seconds.
McEachern took the 400 in 52.62, a nearly five-second win, and Waterman the long jump with a leap of 19-5 as both ran on the triumphant 1,600 relay in 3:53 along with Thomas Menge and Blayne LaCosse.
That relay won by a quite amazing 32 seconds.
Negaunee won two more field events, with Alec Smith taking the discus with a hurl of 116-9.5 and Ethan Gauthier putting the shot with a winning distance of 39-3.
Westwood claimed the three other victories in the boys meet as Ellis King took the 100 in 11.50, a victory of just three-hundredths of a second over teammate Karten Scherer, Johnny Jestila took the 800 in 2:23.90, and the Patriots’ 800 relay also won in 1:38 with King,
