MARQUETTE — Four members of the Wildcat Aquatics Club competed at a pair of Wisconsin state championship swim meets early this month.

Henrik Larsen represented the club at the Senior State Championships for athletes ages 15 years and older and held in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, while August Krueger, Tenley Belanger and Makaya Hurley competed for the local team at the 10-and-under State Championships in Verona, Wisconsin.

At the 10-under, Krueger had the highest finish among the three swimmers on the meet’s first day, putting together a busy four-event day by placing 16th in the 500-yard freestyle in 6 minutes, 48.79 seconds; 19th in the 100 backstroke in 1:21.37; 24th in the 100 free in 1:14.17; and 44th in the 50 breaststroke in 46.98 seconds.

On the same day, Hurley finished 37th in the 25 free in 17.99 seconds, while Belanger was 34th in the 25 backstroke in 21.91 seconds and 57th in the 25 free in 18.71.

Then on Day 2, Belanger was 27th in the 50 free in 39.42 seconds, while Hurley had an active three-event day and placed 30th in the 50 back in 47.07, 33rd in the 50 free in 40.24, and 63rd in the 25 butterfly in 22.61.

Larsen had a successful meet in Brown Deer, advancing through the morning preliminaries to the 32-swimmer evening finals in every event he competed in.

His best time in each event is listed with his place in that event.

On Day 1, he was 18th in the 100 fly in 52.16 seconds and 29th in the 50 free in 22.07.

The next day, he was 10th in the 200 fly in 1:56.24 and 25th in the 100 free in 47.79.

And on Day 3, Larsen had his highest finish of fifth place in the 200 free in 1:43.41, while also taking 20th in the 50 fly in 23.95 seconds.

Even though he was the only swimmer representing the Wildcat Aquatics Club at the Senior States, he still earned enough points to get the club into third place in the team standings for Division 3.

Larsen was also scheduled to compete at the 2025 Speedo Sectionals in Rochester, Minnesota, from March 13-16.
