Marquette Sentinels boys basketball team gets season off to fast start at Gladstone, winning 76-36

GLADSTONE — Marquette got off to a fast start to its boys basketball season with a 76-36 victory at Gladstone on Tuesday evening.

Some returning players had big games, including Jacob MacPhee putting up 25 points, 16 rebounds, seven steals and five assists.

Teammate Kyler Sager added 12 points, while Jaxon Jurmu and Connor Fierstine scored eight apiece.

“The kids played hard and it was a great start to the season,” Sentinels head coach Rich Ledy said in an email detailing the result.

Marquette is off until next weekend, when it travels to Traverse City to play TC West at 7 p.m. Friday and TC Central at noon next Saturday.

The extended, six-game road “trip” to begin the Sentinels’ season goes on for games at Negaunee on Dec. 10, at Westwood on Dec. 16 and at Sault Ste. Marie on Dec. 18 before their first home game is at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, against Iron Mountain.

That will be the first of four home games in a row that include early January contests vs. Kingsford, Escanaba and Menominee.

The game against the Soo is scheduled to be played at Lake Superior State’s Norris Events Center.
