Led by Negaunee’s Janelle Rautiola, Mid-Peninsula Conference hands out volleyball awards

ISHPEMING — Seventeen players and a coach from area teams won more 20 awards when the Mid-Peninsula Conference selected its all-conference teams recently.

Negaunee won both major awards. Senior Janelle Rautiola was named the M-PC Player of the Year, while Krista Squiers earned Coach of the Year.

Three players — all seniors — were double winners, each earning a berth on the First Team and also the All-Defensive Team.

They are Sonja Kiviniemi of Ishpeming and Leah Goudreau and Kamry Flodin of Manistique.

Also earning a spot on the First Team are seniors Theresa Anderson and Madison Pekrul of Negaunee.

Miners’ senior Tessa Kangas was joined on the Second Team by junior Ava Jo Hares and sophomore Marie Salisbury of Ishpeming, along with junior Maya Carlson of Manistique.

Also making the All-Defensive Team was Negaunee senior Maddie Beaudry and Westwood senior Abby Williams.

And earning Honorable Mention was junior Kadence Ruggerio of Gwinn, senior Hailey Markham of Westwood, freshman Nora Jo Anderson of Ishpeming, junior Delaney Gladwell of Negaunee and senior Clara Cunningham of Manistique.

With Gladstone and Iron Mountain also members of the M-PC, here are the other award winners:

FIRST TEAM — Macy Linsenbigler, sr., Iron Mountain

SECOND TEAM — Adie Tryan, sr., Gladstone; Lillie Johnson, jr., Gladstone; Gerilis Sampoll-Torres, sr., IM

ALL-DEFENSIVE — Tryan, Gladstone; Bella Person, jr., IM

HONORABLE MENTION — Maev Hanson, jr., Gladstone
