Marquette, Baraga County off-road racers rumble in Bark River

BARK RIVER — Day 2 of the 2024 Off Road Rumble in the U.P. saw its fair share of intrigue and drama at the Bark River International Raceway in Delta County on Saturday.
After walking away with a win in the Sportsman SxS class on Friday, Bark River’s Zack Wirhanowicz aimed for a repeat in front of his hometown crowd. While he made the podium, he had to settle for third place.
He wasn’t the only Upper Peninsula driver in the Sportsman SxS field. Ishpeming’s Carter Krook finished 10th, Escanaba’s Connor LaCasse finished 16th, Baraga’s Danielle Reeves 19th and Gladstone’s Bryce Carlson 20th.
Wilson’s Jersey Kleikamp finished third in the 170 SxS class. Menominee’s Lainey Gearhart was 15th and Baraga’s Weston Brunk 18th.
Racing over three days began Friday and was scheduled to be completed on Sunday.

In the 1600 Light Buggy class on Saturday, Marquette’s Adam Heikkila finished 16th and Bark River’s Allison Wandahsega 18th. The Youth SxS saw Menominee’s Keegan Gearhart come in ninth.
The 1600 Single Buggy class had four U.P. racers in its field. Gwinn’s James Thompson finished 13th, Menominee racers Jeff Sakovitz and Lance Gearhart were 15th and 16th, respectively, and Kendra Hayward of Gladstone 19th.
A pair of U.P. racers finished inside the top 10 in the Stock Truck class. Rapid River’s Zachary Wennesheimer finished eighth and Wilson’s Kyle Jenshak 10th.
A trio of U.P. racers finished inside the top six in the Super Stock Truck class. Gladstone’s Braden Beauchamp finished third, Marquette’s Scott Heikkila fifth and Kingsford’s Brad Barglind sixth.
In Pro Am SxS action, Bark River’s Paige Wirhanowicz came in 16th and Benjamin Heiting of Bark River 22nd.
Two U.P. racers battled in the Pro Lite class. Felch’s Antonio Inglese and Champion’s Matt Wood finished seventh and eighth, respectively. In the Pro Spec class, Felch’s Porter Inglese finished seventh.
Among the other divisions held on Saturday were the 200 SxS, youth SxS, 570 SxS, pro SxS, pro stock SxS, short course kart, mod kart, pro buggy, pro2 and pro4.

On Friday in the first day of the 2024 Off Road Rumble in the U.P. at the Bark River International Raceway, Wirhanowicz won the Sportsman SxS class, while Gladstone’s Bryce Carlson was foruth, Danielle Reeves of Baraga 11th, Carter Krook of Ishpeming 19th, Connor LaCasse of Escanaba 20th and Sosh Stenberg of Spalding 28th in a 30-car field.
In other sportsman divisions, Keegan Gearhart was seventh in the 200 SxS class, while in the 170 SxS, Jersey Kleikamp of Wilson was runner-up, Lainey Gearhart of Menominee 15th and Weston Brunk of Baraga 17th.
In the 1600 Light Buggy division, Adam Heikkila of Marquette placed eighth and Allison Wandahsega of Bark River 16th in a deep field of competition.
And in 1600 Single Buggy, Jeff Sakovitz of Menominee finished ninth and Lance Gearhart of Menominee 14th, while Kendra Hayward of Gladstone was 15th and James Thompson of Gwinn 20th.
The Super Stock Truck division saw three U.P. racers in the top 10 — Braden Beauchamp of Gladstone finished third, Scott Heikkila of Marquette seventh and Brad Barglind of Kingsford eighth.
In Pro Lite, Matt Wood of Champion came in fourth while Antonio Inglese of Felch was seventh. In Pro Am SxS, Bark River’s Paige Wirhanowicz and Benjamin Heiting finished 19th and 23rd, respectively, while in Pro Spec, Porter Inglese of Felch was fifth.
In Stock Truck racing, Zachary Wennesheimer of Rapid River finished eighth and Kyle Jenshak of Wilson was right behind him in ninth.
Other racing came in the youth SxS, 570 SxS, short course kart, mod kart, pro buggy, pro stock SxS, pro SxS, pro2 and pro4.
