Would-be Northern Michigan University Wildcats soccer players get chance to be noticed at ID camp

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team staff will hold a residential ID camp near the end of this month on campus in Marquette.

An “ID” camp can help identify, or ID, potential players for the Wildcats team.

During the camp, athletes in grades 8 and up get to experience staying in NMU’s dorms, soccer sessions coached by Northern staff and athletic facility tours, among other things.

“I’m really looking forward to being a part of this year’s residential ID camp,” Wildcats new assistant coach Natalie Stampfly said in an NMU Sports Information news release. “We found some of our current players from camps just like this one and often recruit directly from our ID camps. It’s a great experience for everyone and we’ve been excited to be able to bring back the residential portion of our camps.”

The camp runs from Sunday through Wednesday, July 28-31, and costs $350 for resident campers who will stay on campus and $225 for commuter campers, while one-day commuter prices are $125 for Monday or Tuesday of that week. Packages for both resident and commuter campers include meals.

Instruction will take place at the NMU Soccer Fields located behind the Superior Dome closer to Lake Superior.

Each day between meals and training there will be time for downtime and planned activities.

There will be a total of eight training sessions, each lasting either 90 minutes or two hours, in the four days. Breakfast will be served on Monday through Wednesday, lunch on Monday and Tuesday, and dinner on Sunday through Tuesday.

Items that should be brought to the camp and exact times, including Sunday check-in and Wednesday check-out, can be found on the NMU athletics website, nmuwildcats.com.
