Long, Herman power Pineshears to victory

NEGAUNEE — Nikki Long and Ann Herman each hit a triple to lead Pineshears to a 28-23 extra-innings victory over LaCosse & Associates in a Class A game during the third week of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Wednesday.

Teammate Victoria Dishaw doubled, while LaCosse was led by Lexi Pomplun and Jordan Kowalski both hitting a triple and Taylor Carlson a double.

In another “A” contest, Jackie Skradski went 5 for 5 and scored five runs to lead Buck’s Party Store-Barrel & Beam to a 24-16 victory over Martin Sports.

The winners’ Sam Sailer was 3 for 5 with four runs, while Martin’s Caitlin Hewitt went 4 for 4 including a triple and Gabby Hebert 3 for 4 with a double.

Emily Rose was 4 for 4 with four runs scored while Mariah Dunham cracked a pair of homers as Screened Image posted a 20-5 win over River Rock, which saw Ally Solander and Quinn Whitford both go 2 for 3 with two runs.

Taylor Oakland was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and Erika Bjorne and Lyndsey Bleau each laced a triple and double as Jasper Ridge Brewery pounded out an 18-3 triumph over Dave’s Collision, whose Heather Moore was 2 for 2 and Libbie Doney tripled.

Katie Rankinen collected four hits and three RBIs while teammate Nikki Whitford had a similar-sounding three hits and four RBIs as Congress Pizzas whipped up a 21-1 win over Jack’s Teepee, whose Hailey Thompson had two hits and a run scored.

In Class B, winning pitcher Nichi Sundberg helped her own cause by hitting a grand slam homer as Cognition slipped past Cedar Saunas 19-18.

Cognition’s Emily Wright went 3 for 3, while teammate Deanna Makela-Mingay hit back-to-back triples.

The Saunas’ Katie VanBuren hit an over-the-fence grand slam, while teammate Nancy Laine hit two “regular” homers.

Also in “B,” Loretta Willey, Neily Collick, Sarah Boogren and Cassidy Krueger each homered to lead Globe Printing to a 17-6 victory over Tino’s, whose Amber Salo and Sarah Massie both hit triples and Paige Willey a double.

Jess Geist homered and collected five RBIs as Pasquali’s drubbed Signs Unlimited 21-2.

The winners’ Tayler Gray was 3 for 3 with three runs scored, while Signs’ Nikki Chapman had a pair of hits.

Taylor Ring busted two homers while going 3 for 3 and Dana Rivord also homered in Quality Car Care’s 17-2 win over Paradise Bar, which got a 2-for-2 night from Rachel Hytinen.

In Class C, Brianna Bauer had a major league kind of night, hitting a pair of homers, including a grand slam, and a double while going 3 for 3 and collecting seven RBIs as the Eagles pounded out a 25-6 win over U.P. Fabricating.

The Eagles’ Bella Nora was also 3 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs in support of winning hurler Terri Axford.

UPF’s Rachael Mager and Brianna Salmela both went 2 for 2 with Mager tripling and Salmela doubling.

Monica Cox turned an unassisted double play and Chastity Lindstrom had a hand in two assisted double plays as Willey’s Tire Shop spun a 14-2 win over Palomaki Family Chiropractic.

The winners’ Krystal Heikkinen hit a double while the Chiropractors’ Mollie Pruett was 3 for 3.
