Hematites start strong
ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Hematite girls softball team is starting the season strong, sweeping a double header Tuesday at Iron Mountain.
Starting pitcher Peyton Manninen struck out 10 and walked one and contributed two hits and two RBIs. IHS won 11-3.
“She was the star of the first game,” said IHS coach Ben McGuire.
Game 2 was a 16-10 Hematite victory. Miley Phillips was the winning pitcher, striking out seven.
On offense, Emily Morton had two hits and Brynn Lanala had three.
“We’re off to a good start,” McGuire said. “We’re 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the (WestPAC) confernce.”
Ishpeming next is scheduled to host L’Anse on Monday.
