Young Trappers expo in Hermansville canceled

HERMANSVILLE — The 17th annual Young Trappers Workshop scheduled next week in Hermansville has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

That is according to the Upper Peninsula Trappers Association’s website.

The group still plans to hold its U.P. Trappers Convention on Friday and Saturday, July 15-16, in Escanaba at the U.P. State Fair fairgrounds.

It’s touted as one of the biggest trapping and outdoor shows in the U.P. and one of the biggest regional conventions in the country.

Legendary trappers are scheduled to attend selling their wares, giving demonstrations and enjoying the show. An emphasis on kids is included.

UPTA will also hold fur pickups for its Fur Harvesters Auction on Saturday, April 9, at various sites around the U.P., including the Crossroads in Sands Township and in Negaunee, Trenary and Baraga. Furs can also be dropped off by appointment only in Marquette, Ishpeming and Republic.

More details, including specific sites and times, can be found online at https://www.furharvesters.com/pickups/gunville.pdf or by calling UPTA President John Gunville at 906-221-6935 or emailing him at jgunville@hotmail.com.

For more information about the convention, the UPTA or trapping in general, visit its website at uptrappers.com.
