Vying to be Detroit’s Biggest Fan

Gary Campioni, right, joins Detroit Lions mascot Roary as they point at each other. The 1995 Northern Michigan University graduate and Dollar Bay native was in the running for the DetroitÕs Biggest Fan contest sponsored by Comerica Bank. Campioni says he still calls Marquette a home since his days at NMU. He was vying to win the contest, the prize being two season tickets, as he and his Òcrew,Ó the Blue Mane Group, began as college friends who would attend an away Lions game every season. One year when going to a Carolina Panthers game in Charlotte, N.C., they tailgated with fans there as many were dressed in crazy outfits, inspiring the crew. (Photo courtesy Gary Campioni)
