Pickleball beginner clinics set

MARQUETTE — The Superiorland Pickleball Club of Marquette will conduct a pair of free beginner pickleball clinics to those who want to learn the sport.

Organizers say that pickleball, a paddleball sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis, is considered one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. and is meant for all ages.

Clinics will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, and 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Sands Community Center outdoor courts just south of the Crossroads at County Road 480 and M-553 in Sands Township.

Neither registration nor reservations are needed to attend as drop-ins are heartily invited.

Those with a pickleball paddle are asked to bring it, though the club will have several paddles on hand. The club will also supply the nets and balls needed.

Wear comfortable clothes, tennis-type shoes and make sure to bring a water bottle.

Experienced players from the Superiorland club will guide clinic participants through the basics of the game, including scoring, strategies and techniques.

In the event of rain, a clinic will be rescheduled.

For more information, check the club’s Facebook page or call club President Earl Schuster at 228-3833.
