Negaunee to play at Gwinn in Oldtimers Softball game on Thursday afternoon

GWINN — The Gwinn Oldtimers Softball Team enters its Thursday afternoon game against Negaunee with a bit of momentum after defeating the Marquette Oldtimers 9-8 on Friday.

Playing at Hurley Field in Marquette, Gwinn needed 10 innings — three extra innings — to pull out the victory.

Gwinn pitcher Dave Derouin went the distance on the rubber for the victory, while Pedro Flynn pitched for Marquette.

Information on the winning run wasn’t available, but Gwinn team spokesman Gary Rautio reported Marquette took a big early lead before his team came back to forge a tie and extra innings.

Thursday’s 4 p.m. game will be played at the Forsyth Township Ballpark Complex across from Gwinn High School.

Rautio reported his team intends to have return engagements later this summer with both the Marquette and Negaunee teams.

He also said the Gwinn players, all of whom must be at least 62 years old, played an exhibition fastpitch game during the Gwinn Alumni Tournament against the GHS alumni “youngsters” around July 1.
