GWINN — Things started off fairly well for the Negaunee Blasters in their Superiorland Baseball League game on Monday night at the Forsyth Township Ballfield Complex before things quickly got away from them.

The Blasters held a 2-1 lead over Mikey D’s Beer Cave of Escanaba after the first inning, but it was all Mikey’s from that point on as it notched a 14-2 win in five innings.

Mikey D’s struck first in the top of the opening inning on an RBI single by Brandon Punzel, but Negaunee plated two runs in their half of the frame thanks to two errors.

After a quiet second inning, Mikey D’s busted loose in the third. Jack Bower drove in a run with a single, and two batters later Jon Bintner knocked in two more with a single. Later in the inning, Punzel punched across two more runs to put the Beer Cave up 6-2 and the final run in the frame came on a bases-loaded walk.

In the fourth, Mikey D’s picked up another run on a sacrifice fly by Zach Hanson to push its advantage to 8-2 before getting six more in the fifth.

In other Superiorland action, the Channing Railroaders defeated the Marquette County Mavericks 10-2 in Channing.

On Monday, the Mavericks take on Mikey D’s at 6:45 p.m. in Gwinn, while the Railroaders host Coldwell Banker-Craig Heinonen at 7 p.m. EDT in Channing.
