Bay College women’s basketball season ends with loss in tournament game
ESCANABA — The season came to a close for the Bay College women’s basketball team on Wednesday night when Rochester Community and Technical College defeated the Norse 64-46 in a National Junior College Association Region 13 subregional tournament game.
Gwinn High School graduate and Bay sophomore Trish McGuire didn’t score, but did share team-high rebounding honors with five in 28 minutes playing time.
She also dished out three assists and had a steal.
Fellow Gwinn product and Norse sophomore Brooke Mannor scored two points, making both her free throws, and had two rebounds and a steal in 13 minutes. Those free throws came six seconds before halftime and tied the score 25-25 at the time.
Bay, which finished at 6-11, fell behind early but stayed close, trailing by a single point at 13-12 and 16-15 before taking a 21-20 lead with 4:17 left in the first half on a Bree Arsenault 3-pointer.
After the halftime tie, the Norse’s Holly Wardynski hit a pair of triples in the first 90 seconds of the third quarter to give Bay a 31-25 lead.
But Rochester came back to take a 45-43 lead entering the final quarter, when Bay scored just three points in those final 10 minutes.
