Area products Korey Kaukola, Karlie Patron key Bay softball in Florida

CHAIN OF LAKES, Fla. — A pair of area high school graduates figured prominently for Bay College in four college softball games played Saturday and Sunday in Florida.

Bay sophomore Korey Kaukola, an Ishpeming High School graduate, cracked a two-run homer as her highlight in the first game against Lincoln Trail Community College on Sunday, a game the Norse won 12-9.

In all, she had three hits in the four games and accumulated four RBIs while scoring three runs and collecting four walks.

Bay (2-5) lost the other three games, 9-8 to Lincoln Trail on Sunday, and 10-2 and 13-1, each in five innings, to Triton College on Saturday.

Norse freshman pitcher Karlie Patron, who is a Westwood graduate, towed the rubber in all four games, two as a starter, including in the win against Lincoln Trail. In the win, she went 4 1/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeout and four walks.

She pitched a total of 12 innings over the weekend, accumulating five strikeouts.

Bay College was scheduled to play doubleheaders Monday, today and Thursday in Florida.
