Bailey Froberg scores 11 points for Finlandia women’s basketball team in loss to North Central College

MINNEAPOLIS — The Finlandia women’s basketball team winning streak ended at 13 games Saturday despite the Lions getting 11 points and four rebounds from L’Anse High School graduate Bailey Froberg.

The Lions lost 67-54 at North Central College, a team that is now 14-2.

Froberg hit a pair of 3-pointers and also made a steal while turning the ball over just once in 24 minutes of court time.

Four other area players also contributed for Finlandia. Baraga’s Carsyn Osterman had seven points, eight rebounds, two steals and a game-high eight assists; Ishpeming’s Mariah Austin had seven points and a team-high nine rebounds; Ishpeming’s Kate Loman had four points, four rebounds and three steals; and Baraga’s Martina Jahfetson didn’t score in seeing just one minute court time.

The Lions erased a 21-13 deficit at the end of the first quarter to put them ahead 33-25 at halftime, but NC turned the tables in the third quarter, going back on top 49-43 entering the final period.

Finlandia (2-1), whose win streak included the final 11 games last season, travels to Ashland, Wisconsin, to play Northland at 6 p.m. EST Tuesday before coming home to host Bryant & Stratton at 1 p.m. Saturday.
