Michigan Tech freshman Carson Bantle taken in NHL Draft

HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech freshman Carson Bantle was the lone player with WCHA ties chosen in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, the league said in a news release.

Bantle was selected by the Arizona Coyotes with the 18th pick — 142nd overall — in Wednesday’s fifth round. He is the 82nd player from Michigan Tech to be chosen in the draft and first since Matt Roy was tabbed by the Los Angeles Kings in the seventh round in 2015. Bantle is scheduled to begin his first season with the Huskies this fall.

The Onalaska, Wisconsin, native tallied 69 points on 30 goals and 39 assists in 111 games with the USHL’s Madison Capitols in 2018-19 and 2019-20 following two prep seasons at Shattuck St. Mary’s in Minnesota.
