Bay College teams busy today, Saturday

ESCANABA — Bay College has a busy weekend of athletics scheduled for Saturday despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Bay’s baseball team will play its third of seven games today in its Blue-Green World Series. The series of intrasquad games will also be played on Tuesday, Thursday, next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17. Today and the next three games are scheduled for 4:15 p.m. with a 2 1/2-hour time limit, while the finale on Oct. 17 starts at 11 a.m. and is scheduled for a full seven innings.

The Norse cross country teams host the Bay College Invitational at the Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast in Gladstone on Saturday with the women’s race beginning at 11 a.m. and men’s at 11:30 a.m.

Among the runners on Bay women’s team is freshman Kaitlyn Millin of Trenary, while head coach Jim Murtha is a 1995 Northern Michigan University graduate who most recently coached track and field at Gladstone High School before joining Bay in 2016.

Bay’s softball team will play a doubleheader scrimmage against a team of alumni and other area softball players starting at noon Saturday at the Wells Sports Complex.
