Marquette Regional History Center presents ski program with Northern Michigan University coach

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Regional History Center has invited area skiing expert Sten Fjeldheim of Northern Michigan University to make a presentation about Nordic skiing at its center in mid-October.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the program set for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, will be held on the lawn of the history center, located at 145 W. Spring Street in Marquette.

It includes a $5 suggested donation and attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair and dress for the weather. If it turns inclement, the center will make a cancellation notice by 4 p.m. that day.

A native of the country of Norway, Fjeldheim has been a Wildcats’ Nordic ski coach for 34 years. He has won a lengthy list of regional and national awards, most recently being named the Central Collegiate Ski Association Coach of the Year in 2018.

He also helped develop the Superiorland Ski Club and a competition course at Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming. He skied for NMU and several national teams during the early and mid 1980s.
