Sands Speedway races on Sunday with annual Kids Day

SANDS — Sands Speedway in Sands Township will hold its annual Kids Day for the sixth date of an eight-race season on Sunday afternoon at its quarter-mile paved track in Sands Township.

For this event sponsored by Advance Auto Parts, the track will follow its usual schedule — the grandstand opens at 1 p.m., time trials commence at 2 p.m. and racing begins at 3 p.m.

Kids will have a chance to meet and talk with the track’s drivers and get autographs on collectible cards. Ice cream, cupcakes, gift bags and raffles will be also be added attractions that day.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Big Wheel races won’t be held this year.

General admission is $10, with seniors 60 years and up $7, teens from 13-17 years old $5 and children 12 and under free. A pit pass is available for $20.

The track boasts an elevation change of 32 feet with a pair of unique corners to make it as much a road course as a traditional oval track.

Sands Speedway began its shortened season on June 28 and has raced and will race each Sunday through Aug. 9. It takes a week off before holding its season-ending CUP Racing Series day on Aug. 23.
