Michigan Tech University’s Student Development Complex open for all MTU students in July

HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech University will reopen its Student Development Complex to current students on July 13 with limited hours and access to the fitness center and pool.

This is in keeping with federal, state and university guidelines to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, MTU announced in a news release on Tuesday.

With state-mandated criteria in mind, the return of people to the facility is being phased in, first with Tech student-athletes before allowing in the general MTU student population.

Regular members of the SDC will be welcome at a later date, with membership and locker rentals extended for the length of the closure.

Capacity limits due mostly to social distancing are among the adjustments as staff is developing protective training methods.

Officials are aiming for an early fall resumption of the HuskiesFit group exercise classes as previously purchased class punch cards will not expire.

Ice rentals are now accepted for times after July 13 by going online or calling 487-2578.

University Images remains closed, but Huskies apparel is available online or for curbside pickup by going online at uimages@mtu.edu or calling the store toll-free at 800-850-0688.
