Upper Peninsula Trappers Convention set for July canceled

ESCANABA — The 2020 Upper Peninsula Trappers Convention and Outdoor Expo has been canceled due to concerns with the coronavirus pandemic.

Scheduled for July 10-11 at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, organizers noted Wednesday that this is the first time this event won’t be held in more than 50 years.

The announcement was made by Roy Dahlgren, event coordinator and president of District 3 of the U.P. Trappers Association.

“We seriously considered taking a ‘wait and see’ position regarding the show, but after a lot of discussion and thought, we felt it is the right thing to do (cancel) and not wait any longer,” said U.P. Trappers President John Gunville.

The group plans on hosting its convention in 2021 in mid-summer, according to a U.P. Trappers news release.
