Island Resort women’s pro golf tourney postponed

HARRIS — The Island Resort Championship professional women’s golf tournament scheduled for June has been postponed, according to a Thursday announcement.

The Ladies Professional Golf Associaton said Wednesday that its season restart won’t occur until July, which includes the Symetra Tour that is part of the LPGA.

The Island Resort event was set for June 19-21 at the Sweetgrass Golf Club in Harris, about 15 miles west of Escanaba.

The tournament committee and Symetra Tour are looking at dates in September that the Island event could be moved to, according to a news release from general manager Tony Mancilla of the Island Resort and Casino.

This is scheduled to be the 10th annual Island Resort tourney.

Mancilla added that sponsors, volunteers, housing hosts and the public will be kept up to date as new information is received on rescheduling.
