HERMANSVILLE — The 82nd edition of the Gold Medal Classic basketball tournament has been canceled, organizers said due to health and safety precautions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

The 11-day tournament was to be begin Thursday at the Meyer Township Community Club in Hermansville.

“For the first time since World War II, the Gold Medal Classic will be canceled,” a posting by tournament director Bryan Maule made on the tournament’s online Facebook page says. “We had more teams enter this year in each division than last, along with a high number of teams and talent in the top divisions.”

“(A) huge thank you to all teams and sponsors. We will post dates for 2021 in a few months, (the) likely time frame of (the) 2021 tourney will be (the) end of March (or) beginning of April.”
