Ishpeming product Korey Kaukola leads Bay softball to win

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Ishpeming High School graduate and Bay College freshman Korey Kaukola doubled in a run in the third inning to help the Norse defeat Macomb Community College 16-7 in the final game of a tripleheader played in Florida on Monday.

The game was the seventh in three days for Bay, which was swept in doubleheaders on Saturday in Cocoa Beach and Sunday in Titusville but won all three games Monday back in Titusville.

The Norse also defeated two Minnesota schools, Itasca Community College 12-3 in six innings and St. Cloud Technical and Community College 7-4, earlier on Monday.

Kaukola’s RBI was the only run scored by Bay in the third against Macomb, a Lower Peninsula school located in Warren, after the Norse plated five runs in the first and got another nine in the fourth to end the game early.

Kaukola finished the game 1 for 2 with two RBIs, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base.

For the three games that day, Kaukola, listed as a shortstop each game, went 3 for 8 with two doubles, three runs scored, two walks and three stolen bases.

While she didn’t play Saturday, in Sunday’s two games, again at shortstop, Kaukola was 3 for 6 with a run scored.

For the Norse (4-5) this season, Kaukola has played in seven games and is batting .353 with seven runs, four walks, four stolen bases without being caught, one hit by pitch and just two strikeouts.

Bay was scheduled to continue its Florida swing with two games today vs. St. Clair County Community College of Port Huron, then another two games Thursday and one more Friday, all in Titusville.
