Bailey Froberg a key off Finlandia women’s basketball bench in win

HANCOCK — L’Anse junior Bailey Froberg played a key role off the bench in the Finlandia women’s basketball team scoring its seventh straight victory, a 65-47 decision over visiting Mount Mary on Saturday.

Froberg scored eight points, making a pair of 3-pointers, and had two rebounds and a blocked shot in 14 minutes playing time.

Baraga sophomore Carsyn Osterman didn’t score but dished out six assists, pulled down five rebounds and made a block and a steal as she started and played 26 minutes.

In addition, Ishpeming sophomores Katie Loman and Mariah Austin didn’t score but contributed in other ways. Loman had three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Austin contributed a rebound and a block.

Saturday’s win was also the Lions’ 12th straight at home, including all seven of their games at the Paavo Nurmi Center this season.

Finlandia (12-11) built leads of 13-7, 28-17 and 50-31 after each of the first three quarters.

The Lions have two more games remaining in the regular season, both in Wisconsin. FU plays at Northland College in Ashland on Wednesday and at Holy Family College in Manitowoc on Saturday.
