Austin leads Finlandia women
MANITOWOC, Wis. — Ishpeming sophomore Mariah Austin was one of just two Finlandia women’s basketball players to score in double figures in the Lions’ 87-32 win at Holy Family College on Saturday.
Austin scored 12 points, making a pair of 3-pointers, and added four rebounds as teammate Katie Lundeen led all scorers with 27 points.
Another Ishpeming sophomore, Katie Loman, added nine points, three rebounds and a steal as Finlandia emptied its bench and had a dozen players score.
The Lions, who won a school-record ninth game in a row to improve to 14-11, led 20-3 after one quarter and 47-12 at halftime.
Baraga freshman Martina Jahfteson added seven points to the winning effort along with two assists, a steal and a rebound, while L’Anse junior Bailey Froberg started and scored five points and had three rebounds.
In addition, Baraga sophomore Carsyn Osterman started and scored four points while piling up nine assists, seven rebounds and two steals.
Finlandia gets some time off until it opens American Collegiate Athletic Association Championships play on Saturday, Feb. 29, against Pine Manor in Milwaukee.
