Luke Mattson helps Bay Norse men’s basketball team sweep

ESCANABA — Negaunee sophomore Luke Mattson totaled 13 points over two games as the Bay College men’s basketball team swept its two games at its own Quality Inn & Suites New Year’s Tournament held over the weekend.

Mattson scored six points in the Norse’s 81-77 victory over Sault College of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on Friday night, then pumped in seven points in Bay’s 84-66 win over Western Technical College of La Crosse, Wisconsin, on Saturday afternoon.

Mattson hit 2 of 3 shots from both the field and free throw line on Friday, adding four rebounds. On Saturday, he collected nine rebounds and an assist in just 18 minutes playing time as he started both games.

In addition, Ishpeming sophomore Dondre Yohe scored seven points with a 3-pointer and had four rebounds and two assists on Saturday after he had three points and two rebounds Friday.

And Munising sophomore Cade Contreras had three points in each game, making a triple in each game.

Bay (10-6) plays at Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, Minnesota, on Wednesday night.
