Carsyn Osterman, Bailey Froberg pace Finlandia women’s basketball to pair of wins

HANCOCK — Area players had promiment roles in a pair of wins posted by the Finlandia women’s basketball team over the past several days.

Sophomore Carsyn Osterman of Baraga scored 10 points in the Lions’ 84-40 win over Holy Family College of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, on Sunday. She added six rebounds, four assists and a steal in just 18 minutes.

Junior Bailey Froberg of L’Anse and sophomore Mariah Austin of Ishpeming each scored six points. Froberg hit a 3-pointer and had four rebounds and a steal, while Austin was 3 of 4 from the field, pulled down five rebounds and made a steal.

Freshman Martina Jahfetson of Baraga had five points, making a triple and going 2 of 2 at the free-throw line while adding two rebounds and an assist.

Sophomore Katie Loman of Ishpeming had two points, three rebounds, three steals and three assists.

On Thursday, the Lions walloped Great Lakes Christian of Lansing 82-27 with Froberg leading the area contingent with nine points, including a 3-pointer, four steals, three rebounds and two assists.

Osterman had five points, eight assists, seven rebounds and two assists, while Loman added four points, four assists, three steals and two assists. Jahfetson had three points on a 3-pointer, four assists, two rebounds and a steal in 17 minutes.

The Lions are off until Jan. 22 when they travel to St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota.
