Negaunee’s Luke Mattson starts for Bay Norse men’s basketball
COON RAPIDS, Minn. — Negaunee sophomore Luke Mattson started in both contests as the Bay College men’s basketball team split a pair of games at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Holiday Classic over the weekend.
Mattson scored eight points, hitting both his shots from the field and 4 of 6 free throws in a 95-86 loss to Rochester Community and Technical College on Saturday.
Mattson also pulled down three rebounds and had an assist as the Norse led 44-40 at halftime before Rochester blistered the nets for 55 second-half points.
Teammate Dondre Yohe, a sophomore from Ishpeming, had a rebound in 5 minutes action.
In Sunday’s 76-59 win over host Anoka-Ramsey, Mattson and Yohe didn’t score, though Mattson had two rebounds and an assist, while Yohe had a rebound as the Norse established a 39-32 halftime lead.
Bay (8-6) next hosts its Quality Inn & Suites New Year’s Tournament, hosting Sault College of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, then takes on Gogebic Community College of Ironwood or Western Tech of La Crosse, Wisconsin, the following day.
