L’Anse product Bailey Froberg nets 11 points in Finlandia women’s basketball win

HANCOCK — L’Anse product Bailey Froberg scored 11 points as Finlandia snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-7 with a 56-55 college women’s basketball win over Viterbo on Wednesday.

Froberg, a junior, sank three 3-pointers, grabbed three rebounds and had an assist and steal as the Lions won the game in rather dramatic fashion.

Harlee Froberg made a pair of free throws to give Finlandia a 56-55 with 6 seconds left. On Viterbo’s ensuing possession, Katie Lundeen blocked the shot attempt and Baraga sophomore Carsyn Osterman secured the rebound to end the game.

Lundeen led all players with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Osterman had seven points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Also from the area, Ishpeming sophomore Mariah Austin had six points, three rebounds and two assists, while another Ishpeming sophomore, Katie Loman, scored three points with a triple along with two rebounds and two steals.

The Lions host Wisconsin-River Falls at 3 p.m. Saturday, a team they lost to 73-64 at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Thanksgiving Classic last Saturday. It will mark Finlandia’s last home game until after the first of the year.
