L’Anse product Bailey Froberg leads Finlandia women’s basketball team in 64-55 loss

SUPERIOR, Wis. — L’Anse High School graduate Bailey Froberg scored a game-high 20 points but it wasn’t enough as her Finlandia Lions women’s basketball team lost 64-55 to the host team at the Wisconsin-Superior Holiday Shootout on Sunday.

Finlandia (5-11) completes its run at the tourney by playing St. Scholastica (4-7) of nearby Duluth, Minnesota, at 2 p.m. today.

On Sunday, Froberg, a Lions junior, made a pair of 3-pointers and sank 7 of 12 shots from the field overall while making all four of her free-throw attempts. She also pulled down four rebounds and had an assist and a steal.

She scored 14 of her points in the second half after Finlandia trailed 30-28 at halftime.

Baraga freshman and teammate Martina Jahfetson scored three points, making a triple, and had two steals, a rebound and an assist.

Another teammate, Baraga sophomore Carsyn Osterman, scored two points and had two assists, a steal and a rebound, while Ishpeming sophomore Katie Loman didn’t score but pulled down five rebounds and also had three assists and a steal.
