Kelsea Ackerman leads Bay women’s basketball

COON RAPIDS, Minn. — All four players from the area took part for the Bay College women’s basketball team in its two games at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Holiday Classic over the weekend.

The top scoring performance was turned in by sophomore Kelsea Ackerman of Munising as she scored a team-high 10 points in Bay’s 69-65 loss to Western Technical College of La Crosse, Wisconsin, on Saturday.

Ackerman hit three 3-pointers while adding two rebounds, an assist and a steal in 22 minutes off the bench.

Fellow Munising sophomore Marissa Ackerman had seven points, three assists and three steals. Gwinn freshman Trish McGuire also had seven points, hitting two triples, to go with four rebounds, an assist and a steal.

In Sunday’s 65-60 loss to host Anoka-Ramsey, McGuire scored seven points, making 5 of 7 free throws, wiht three steals, two rebounds and an assist.

Kelsea Ackerman had four points, a rebound and a steal, while Marissa Ackerman had three steals, two assists, a blocked shot and a rebound while not scoring.

Gwinn freshman Brooke Mannor also played in both games but didn’t register a statistic in the above-mentioned categories.

Bay (9-5) next plays in its Quality Inn & Suites New Year’s Tournament, facing Sault College of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, and Gogebic Community College of Ironwood or Western Tech the following day.
