Trisha McGuire, Kelsea Ackerman help Bay College women’s basketball team win twice over weekend

ESCANABA — Bay College opened its women’s basketball season with a road sweep over the weekend, winning at Grand Rapids Community College 65-54 Friday and at Kellogg CC 62-59 in Battle Creek Saturday.

Coming off the bench, Gwinn High School graduate and Bay freshman Trisha McGuire scored five points vs. GRCC and nine against KCC, making a 3-pointer in each game and shooting 5 of 8 overall from the field. She also pulled down five rebounds and made two steals vs. Grand Rapids and had three rebounds and a steal vs. Kellogg.

Sophomore teammate Kelsea Ackerman of Munising scored four points and had three steals and a rebound against GRCC and three points with a 3-pointer vs. KCC.

Also from the area, freshman Brooke Mannor of Gwinn had three points, two rebounds and two steals vs. Grand Rapids, while sophomore Marissa Ackerman of Munising didn’t score in either game, but had two steals, two assists and a rebound in the pair of games as she started in both.

Against GRCC, the Norse put together a 10-0 run midway through the first quarter and led the rest of the way. It included a 25-14 advantage after one quarter and 40-23 at halftime.

Versus Kellogg, the score was tied 26-26 at halftime as the Norse shot well but committed 15 first-half turnovers.
