Norse men hold off LSSU JV

ESCANABA — Munising High School graduate Cade Contreras scored 12 points with a pair of 3-pointers as Bay College won a 96-84 decision over the Lake Superior State JV team in a college men’s basketball game played Sunday at the Norse gym.

Contreras, a sophomore at Bay, was 5 of 7 from the field, including 2 of 3 on triples, in just 15 minutes of playing time. He also had a rebound and an assist.

Negaunee product and Norse sophomore Luke Mattson scored two points, making his only attempted shot, and adding three rebounds and an assist in 14 minutes.

Ishpeming grad and Bay sophomore Dondre Yohe also had two points and a steal in just seven minutes on the court, while Gwinn freshman Austin Forbes didn’t score but had two assists and a rebound in 11 minutes.

The Norse (3-2) jumped out to a 9-2 lead and held a 44-30 advantage at halftime. The Lakers got as close as four points in the second half before Bay pulled away.

The Norse hit the road this weekend for games at Milwaukee Area Technical College on Friday night and at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, on Saturday afternoon before returning home to host Alpena Community College at 7:30 p.m. next Monday.
