Area players help Finlandia women’s basketball team
HANCOCK — Sophomore Carsyn Osterman of Baraga scored 10 points for the Finlandia University women’s basketball team as the Lions lost at Dubuque, Iowa, 84-71 in their season opener on Saturday.
Osterman, who made a 3-pointer, also grabbed four rebounds and made a steal in just 14 minutes of action.
Junior teammate Bailey Froberg, a L’Anse graduate, added seven points with a made triple, three rebounds and a steal, while sophomore Katie Loman of Ishpeming contributed six points, six steals, three rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.
Another area player, Ishpeming grad Mariah Austin, scored five points and had five rebounds, three steals and three assists.
On Sunday, Finlandia fell 77-48 at Wisconsin-Platteville as Austin scored nine points, making all five of her free-throw attempts, and added four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Froberg scored five points, making 5 of 6 free throws, and also three rebounds and an assist.
