Newberry’s Dave Carlson stars for Finlandia Lions football team
ANGOLA, Indiana — Sophomore Dave Carlson of Newberry was a top defender for the Finlandia University football team as it lost to Trine 58-0.
Carlson made 11 tackles with 2 1/2 of them for losses as the Lions gave up just seven points in the first quarter. Finlandia is No. 1 in NCAA Division III in pass defense yardage allowed.
Finlandia, which fell to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, plays Adrian at 1 p.m. Saturday in the final home game of the season at McAfee Field in Hancock.
