Waara, Carlson star for Finlandia
HANCOCK — L’Anse graduate Reese Waara scored a long touchdown pass and finished with four reception for Finlandia, which lost a college football game at home on Saturday 23-12 to Concordia-Chicago.
In the latter stages of the second quarter and the Lions trailing 14-0, Waara was part of a freshman scoring hookup when quarterback Darin Johnson threw a 60-yard TD pass to Waara.
Waara finished with 75 yards receiving on his quartet of catches as Johnson was 12 of 23 for 147 yards.
On defense, sophomore Dave Carlson of Newberry was second for Finlandia (0-3) in tackles with 11. Concordia is 2-1.
The Lions take this weekend off before returning to action at 1 p.m. on Oct. 5 at home against Olivet.
