Westwood Class of 1998 wins pair of games to reach alumni softball finals

ISHPEMING — The Class of 1998 won a pair of games on Saturday to move into the championship game of the White Division of the Westwood High School Alumni Softball Tournament.

Championship games were scheduled for Sunday morning and early afternoon.

The ’98ers first took out 1990-91 19-2 as Jeremy Steele had a pair of doubles and a triple and the winners’ first five batter scored.

Then ’98 defeated 1992-93 15-8 as Steele again tripled and Amy Coduti doubled for the victors.

Earlier, 92-93 doubled up 96-97 8-4 with a comeback as it scored three in the sixth and four in the seventh.

In the Red Division on Saturday, 1984-85 felled 1981-82-83 16-0 asa Randy Piechocki, Rick Powelson, Tom Garceau and Rick LaFountain each doubled for 84-85.

1978-79-80 downed 1986 15-4 as Dennis Nault, Dan Chapman and Ron Coron each went 3 for 4 for the winners.

And in the Blue Division, 2019 needed eight innings to defeat 2015 7-6 as Eric Farley and Andrew Duquette both homered for 2015.

2012 outscored 2008 23-6 as Kyle Maki homered and doubled and Andrew LeSage tripled and doubled.

On Friday, 2019 pulled out another 7-6 victory, this time over 2009, as Jacob Adriano hit a three-run homer for the winners.

2015 dropped 2014 11-5 as Duquette scored three times.

2012 bopped 2018 21-4 as Tyler Prophet homered three times and added a triple while teammate Tanner Truscott hit two homers. Russ Honkala had a diving catch for 2018.

1999 blitzed 1994 24-6 as the winners’ Brad Nelson hit an inside-the-park homer and Bobby Carlson scored four runs.

And 2008 defeated 2013 7-0.
