Thexton, Trego lead River Rock to 1st win

ISHPEMING — Kris Thexton went 3 for 4 and Nichol Trego tripled to lead River Rock Lanes to its first win of the season, 12-5 over U.P. Fabricating in Class C of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on June 26.

Val Prusi homered for U.P. Fabricating.

Also in “C,” Jordann Grigg was 3 for 3 and Adrienne Suardini doubled in a 7-4 win posted by undefeated Jack’s Teepee over OSS, which got a triple from Jaimie Kibler.

Pineshears remained a game out of first place with a 19-10 win over the Negaunee Eagles. The winners’ Toni Tikkanen and Chelsea Roberts each went 4 for 4 with a homer as Tikkanen had three RBIs and Roberts two. Teammate Kathy LaPine was 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

The Eagles’ Janelle Buttery was 3 for 3.

Emma Bleckler went 4 for 4 to support winning pitcher Brooke Bleckler as Willey’s Tire Shop earned its second win of the season with a 28-6 victory over Marquette Embroidery.

The winners’ Miranda Cobb and Krystal Heikkinen each homered, while Embroidery’s Katie Menard hit a triple.

Liz Beauchamp, who doubled twice, and Barb Palomaki each were 3 for 3 to support winning hurler Kathy Gischia in Palomaki Family Chiropractic’s 5-3 win over Bertucci Construction.

In Class B, Cassidy Kruger smacked two homers and Sara Smith and Casey Dugan added one apiece as Globe Printing remained undefeated with a 28-5 lashing of Martin Sports. Dugan and teammate Loretta Willey each went 5 for 5 while Kruger and Smith both were 4 for 5.

Also in “B,” Mady Kontio was 2 for 3 with a double as Buster’s remained one game back with a 16-3 win over Dave’s Collision, which got a triple from Tera Bell.

Judy Morcon and Deanna Makela combined on a double play as Venice eked out a 6-3 win over Paradise Bar.

The winners’ Tia Couveau cracked two homers while going 2 for 3 as teammate Mary Kaye Grady was 3 for 3. Paradise’s Jess Harper and Stacey Stone each went 3 for 3, Harper homering, Stone hitting a triple and double and teammate Lisa Niemi getting a triple.

Andria Corcoran, Frannie Kelly and Kara Szember all went 3 for 4 in Pasquali’s 9-7 victory over Quality Car Care, which got a double from Lori Rivord, Erin LaValley and Brandi Petrocik.

Valerie LaChapelle was 3 for 3 with a triple in Signs Unlimited’s 25-14 win over Brogie’s, which got a homer from Gabby Hebert.

In Class A, Erin King went 4 for 5 while Nicole Gustafson was 3 for 5 with a homer as Screened Image/Venice 2 got its second win of the season, a 21-12 victory over Riverside Club, which got a homer from Veronica Slone and triple from Thalicia DellAngelo.

Also in “A,” Amanda Harlock went 5 for 5 with a double and Maria Slater 4 for 4 with a triple as Cognition Brewing Co. remained undefeated with a 20-3 win over Jasper Ridge Brewery.

Meagan Petros, who tripled, Terri Todd, who doubled, and Molly Wales all went 4 for 5 for the winners, while Mandie Meyer clubbed three doubles, Jessica Geist hit a triple and Megan Kinnunen and Courtney Waara each hit doubles.

Jasper’s LeAnn Saarela, who doubled, and Taylor Watters each were 3 for 4.

Buck’s Party Store stayed within a game of the top spot with a 25-5 victory over Sisters. Buck’s Nicole Christensen was 4 for 4 with two homers while Sam Sailer went 3 for 4.

Sisters’ Leah Dompierre and Brooke Etelamaki each went 2 for 3.

Brandi Logan and Nikki Whitford each were 4 for 4 as Heritage Glove Repair fixed up a 27-7 win over Tino’s, which saw Nikki Klenc and Sarah Massie each be 2 for 2.
