NMU swimmers earn academic honors

MARQUETTE — The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams at Northern Michigan University have been earned Scholar All-America mentions for the spring semester from the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America.

The Wildcat men had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.47, highest in the GLIAC and fourth highest in the nation. The Northern women measured in at 3.36 and were one of four from the conference making the list.

“Coach (Heidi) Voigt has humbly built a program the university can be proud of — in the pool, the classroom and as alumni,” CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart said in a news release from NMU.

A record 777 teams representing 480 institutions were named to the group’s Scholar All-America team for the spring. The CSCAA recognizes teams with a 3.0 or higher GPA for the semester.

The Wildcats finished the 2018-19 season with 37 All-American or Honorary All-American honors at the NCAA Division II Championships and had 11 champions at the GLIAC Championships.
