NEGAUNEE — Negaunee was eliminated in the Little League baseball District 11 tournament on Wednesday night as Portage Lake won a 7-2 decision in a loser’s bracket game played at Bernie Rivers Memorial Field in Negaunee.

Portage Lake advances to face the champion of the winner’s bracket, Ishpeming, in the tourney finals at 6 p.m. today back at Rivers Field. Because Ishpeming has no losses and PL has one, a win by Ishpeming tonight gives it the title, but if PL wins, then the “if necessary” game will return to the same site at 6 p.m. Friday.

On Wednesday, PL took an early 2-0 lead before Negaunee tied it with a two-run homer by Hank Tincknell.

But errors plagued Negaunee and PL took advantage of them to build up a lead and complete the win.
