Softball: Pruett leads Palomaki in squeaker over Willey’s

ISHPEMING — Madison Pruett went 4 for 4 and hit a home run to lead Palomaki Family Chiropractic to a 14-11 victory over Willey’s Tire Shop in Class C of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on June 12.
Teammate Jen Flynn and Willey’s Amy Williams each were 3 for 3 while Williams’ teammate Krystal Heikkinen homered.
In another “C” game, Echo Popps hit for the cycle, including two homers, and went 5 for 5 as the Negaunee Eagles outscored Marquette Embroidery 31-12. Teammate Nancy Laine also went 5 for 5 with a homer to support winning pitcher Sue Bazinette.
Embroidery’s Amy Young and Carla Lovern each were 4 for 4 with Young getting a homer and triple and Lovern a double.
Jessica Taylor, Mara Couch, Kristen Utzman and Betty Vickstrom each homered in a 27-15 win posted by OSS over Bertucci Construction, which got homers from Kinsie Bertucci and Loghyn Danis.
Jordan Grigg hit a grand slam homer and teammate Macey Nault a garden-variety roundtripper as Jack’s Teepee posted an 18-3 win over U.P. Fabricating, which saw Jessica Noskey homer and Brianna Salmela triple.
Toni Tikkanen, Mary Peterson and Amber Tuominen each went 4 for 4 as Pineshears slipped past River Rock Lanes 20-13. Tikkanen included a homer and two doubles in her output, while Peterson had four RBIs and Tuominen one.
River Rock’s Jordan Fitzpatrick was 4 for 5 with a homer and triple and teammate Kaylee O’Connor 5 for 5.
In Class A, Nikki Schultz went 4 for 4 with an over-the-fence homer and two doubles as Cognition Brewing Co. blanked Sisters 15-0.
The winners’ Amanda Harlock was also 4 for 4 with a triple and two doubles, Terri Tammelin hit a three-run homer and double, Terri Todd was 3 for 3 and Courtney Waara and Megan Kinnunen each doubled.
Sisters’ Leah Dompierre went 2 for 2.
In another “A” contest, LeAnn Saarela, Steph Abata and Vanessa Taavola all went 5 for 5 as Jasper Ridge Brewery outscored Riverside Club 26-16. Saarela, Abata and teammate Taylor Watters each homered.
For Riverside, Veronica Slone homered while Kendyl Miller, Vanessa Briones, Tayler Gray and Grace Zimmerman each tripled.
Deb Zummak went 5 for 5 to lead Buck’s Party Store past Tino’s 23-16. Teammate Kathy Hill was 4 for 4, Sue Rice 4 for 5 and Sara Polini 3 for 4 as Zummak, Hill and Polini each hit two doubles and Rice had one.
Abbie Salisbury collected three hits and teammate Michelle Turri had two as Heritage Glove Repair held on for a 13-8 win over Screened Image/Venice 2, which saw Emilee Rowe scoop up three hits.
In Class B, Deanna Makela homered to help Venice post a 15-7 win over Pasquali’s, whose Nikki Frisk tripled.
Libby Doney hit for the cycle, Lisa Carlson went 6 for 6 and Michelle Roose 5 for 5 as Dave’s Collision rolled to a 38-23 win over Brogie’s, whose Kim Koski, with two triples, and Brylea Ranta both went 4 for 4.
Cassidy Krueger was 5 for 5 and teammates Sarah Smith and Casey Dugan each 4 for 5 as Globe Printing got an extra touchdown in a 17-10 win over Signs Unlimited.
Krista Squiers went 5 for 5 with a homer to lead Buster’s to a 24-7 victory over Quality Car Care, whose Connie Kontio and Lori Ring each went 3 for 3.
Jen Chapman and Stacey Stone both were 4 for 4 as teammate Jessy Harper was 3 for 4 with a homer as Paradise Bar rolled up a 25-4 win on Martin Sports, whose Kera Williams was 2 for 2 and Taylor Carlson doubled.
