Marquette Reds sweep Bark River-Harris Thursday

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Reds Junior Legion baseball team swept a doubleheader over Bark River-Harris Thursday evening and improved its record to 6-5.

In the first game, the Reds used a strong second inning to earn a 13-2 victory. Marquette scored eight runs in the frame with the highlights being three walks, base hits from Skylar Robertson and Luke Mead, and a double by Paavo Mannisto. The Reds finished with 14 hits and Mannisto went 3 for 3 at the plate.

Isaac Sarles earned the win for the Reds as he allowed two runs on nine hits with two strikeouts over four innings.

The second game ended in a more exciting fashion. With the game tied 7-7 in the bottom of the sixth, Dallas Cobe smacked a base hit on a full count to drive in the winning run and give the Reds a 8-7 victory.

Braidan Noskey notched the win for Marquette. He went five and two-thirds innings on the mound, allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

The Reds finished with 16 hits with Cobe, Mannisto, Robertson, Sarles and Nick Pantti all collecting multiple hits. Cobe led the way, going 3 for 3 and Marquette finished with five stolen bases, two of them from Sam O’Neal.
