Little League: Anderson leads Blue Sox to a victory

MARQUETTE — Winning pitcher Brielle Anderson helped her cause by going 3 for 3 at the plate as the Blue Sox of Negaunee defeated Marquette Gray 17-1 in a Little League Minor League softball game played the week of June 16.

Teammates Aly Robar and Emma Hoffenberger also were 3 for 3, while Layla Williams had two doubles and Bella Jacobetti was 2 for 3 with a triple.

In a game from the week of June 9, Tino’s of Negaunee beat Marquette Red 12-0.

In Major League softball from the week of June 16, Fox Negaunee felled GE Builders of Negaunee 14-11 despite GE’s Zoey Williams having two RBIs.

During the week of June 9, GE Builders kept busy but it paid off with three wins. GE outscored Marquette Red 23-13 as Maija Rourke and Lydia Midthum both doubled for the winners, GE blasted Gwinn 19-2 as the winners’ Alyssa Borlace tripled, and GE again downed Marquette Red 18-5.

In Minor League baseball from the week of June 16, Ty Niemi, Vance Forshey and Brayden Gleason each had two hits as Black Diamond Car Wash of Negaunee slipped past Bell Physicians of Negaunee 14-11. One of Gleason’s hits was an inside-the-park home run.

Gaven Store and Vince Tincknell shared the pitching victory in Negaunee VFW’s 9-7 win over Black Diamond. Connor Rajala was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, while Max Frustaglio had an RBI triple and Avery Rautiola an RBI double.

In the week of June 9, the Negaunee Elks downed Bell Physicians 16-1 as pitchers Evan Dellangelo, Kyle Waterman and Jordon Erva combined on a one-hitter. Waterman wasa also 2 for 2 with a triple, while Erva made two diving plays in the field for outs and Payten Black doubled and scored twice.

Niemi pitched Black Diamond to a 15-3 win over Negaunee VFW as Gleason and teammate Griffin Leece each hit inside-the-park homers and Ryan Perry tripled while Michael Warlick contributed with three putouts in the field.

In another game that week, Bell Physicians held off Negaunee VFW 14-12 in seven innings.

In Major League baseball from the week of June 16, Wells Fargo of Negaunee posted a pair of wins, 14-1 over Meijer’s of Marquette and 13-3 over Iron Range Agency of Ishpeming. Super One of Ishpeming doubled up Honor Credit Union of Gwinn 6-3, UPPCO of Negaunee outscored Domino’s of Marquette 14-9 and Strength & Fitness of Ishpeming fended off Cliffs of Negaunee 9-1.

During the week of June 9, Weston Yesney was 3 for 3, teammates Broc Bonovitz and Owen Cardinal added big hits and Carsen Lodgeamadeer was cited for a great defensive play as Wells Fargo edged Vierling of Marquette 7-6.

Luke Menard hit an inside-the-park homer but his Cliffs team still fell to UPPCO of Ishpeming 3-2.

In other scores from that week, First Bank of Ishpeming dropped Honor CU 15-4, Heritage Properties of Negaunee blitzed Honor CU 19-4, Wells Fargo zipped by Domino’s 8-2 and Wells Fargo held off Eagle Mine of Marquette 7-4.

In a game from the week of June 2, Honor CU bounced Iron Range Agency 9-4.

In Junior League baseball for the week of June 16, Richardson Jewelers of Negaunee beat Beauchamp’s of Gwinn 25-1 before Beauchamp’s came back for an 8-4 victory over Thomson & Metivier of Negaunee.

For the week of June 9, Richardson rolled past Thomson & Metivier 13-1.
