Lindberg stars as pitcher, fielder for Marquette Red

MARQUETTE — Keira Lindberg pitched four strong innings, striking out six, and made a big line-drive catch while working on the rubber in Marquette Red’s 21-19 victory over Gwinn in a Major Division softball game of the Marquette County Little League during the week of May 26.

Teammates Halle Haynes and Hayden Schetter had good RBI hits during the game, too.

In other Major softball, Fox of Negaunee swept a doubleheader from GE Builders of Negaunee, 13-5 and 12-5.

In Minor Division softball, all involving Negaunee teams, Tino’s defeated the Blue Sox 3-1 before Lammi Fire Protection downed Tino’s 9-6.

In Junior Division baseball, Meijer’s of Marquette edged Cliffs of Marquette 13-12, Richardson Jewelers of Negaunee felled Beauchamp’s of Gwinn 11-1 and Meijer’s held off Richardson 11-7.

In Major Division baseball, Nash Barabe hit a pair of triples while teammate Tristan Slater cracked a bases-loaded three-bagger as Heritage Properties of Negaunee downed Domino’s of Marquette 9-1.

Ryan Jandron played a good defensive game in centerfield while getting a key hit as Strength & Fitness of Ishpeming eked past Wells Fargo of Negaunee 6-5.

In other Major games, Vierling of Marquette dropped Honor Credit Union of Gwinn 18-6, Meijer’s of Marquette slipped past UPPCO of Negaunee 14-9, Cliffs of Negaunee doubled up Iron Range Agency of Ishpeming 14-7, First Bank of Ishpeming squeezed past Cliffs 9-6, UPPCO ran past Iron Range 12-2, Wells Fargo Advisers dropped Honor 7 -4 and Vierling got by Cliffs 10-5.

In Minor Division baseball, pitchers Evan Dellangelo, Kyle Waterman, Aiden Cardinal and Peyton Black combined on a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts as the Negaunee Elks bounced Ishpeming KC’s 19-1. Dellangelo, Waterman and teammate Eli Nicholas all had triples.

In another Elks’ game, Dellangelo hit two inside-the-park homers and struck out eight in three innings on the pitching mound as the Elks again won, 13-6 over Negaunee VFW. Jordan Erva pitched two solid innings in relief, while Trent Juntti also hit an inside-the-parker.

And teammate Fallon Deroches hit a triple, Cardinal went 2 for 3 and Nicholas also had two hits.

Connor Munson got the pitching victory, striking out nine in three innings, as Black Diamond Car Wash downed Edward Jones of Ishpeming 14-7. Teammate Brayden Gleason collected two hits, too.

In another Black Diamond game, Vance Forshey and Wyatt Nelson each scored twice and had a hit to support winning hurler Ty Niemi as Black Diamond crunched KC’s 18-3.

In other Minor baseball games, Negaunee VFW zipped by Goodwin’s of Marquette 19-3, Bell Physicians of Negaunee scurried past Meyer Family Vision of Ishpeming 16-1 and Bell Physicians outscored U.P. Health Plan of Marquette 20-5.
